DISNEY REVEALS PLANS FOR TWO NEW CRUISE SHIPS

On Thursday, the Walt Disney Company revealed plans to build two new ships for its Disney Cruise Line that will be completed in 2021 and 2023.

According to the official website of Disney Cruise Line, the company has reached a memorandum of agreement with the Meyer Werft shipyard in Germany on the construction of two brand new vessels.

Disney says the ships will both weigh around 135,000 gross tons and each will include about 1,250 guest staterooms. While the design plans, ship names and itineraries have not been finalized, the company is looking to showcase its family entertainment, storytelling and service throughout the vessels.

While additional details about the fleet expansion and onboard offerings will be announced at a later date, cruise enthusiasts should expect big things after the launches of the Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy in 2011 and 2012 featured several firsts for the industry.

Walt Disney Company CEO Robert A. Iger released a statement about the addition of two ships to the Disney Cruise Line in the coming years:

“We pride ourselves on the unforgettable vacation experiences we deliver to our guests each and every day, and the expansion of our Disney fleet will allow us to create even more magical memories for families at sea and in incredible cruise destinations around the world.”

Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Chairman Bob Chapek also released a statement:

“The expansion of Disney Cruise Line only adds to our excitement for the unprecedented growth taking place across our vacation destinations, from new Star Wars experiences coming to the Walt Disney World and Disneyland resorts to the 25th anniversary of Disneyland Paris and the grand opening of our newest park, Shanghai Disney Resort.”
