Frank Diaz, Sky Cana CEO, Highlights Two Years of Continuous Growth in DATE 2022

Punta Cana, D.R. – Frank Diaz, Sky Cana CEO, highlighted during a press conference held at the Dominican Annual Tourism Exchange (DATE 2022), that he is a “proud Dominican entrepreneur whose projects have had, have and will continue to operate based on the highest quality and social benefit standards.”

Sky Cana has become an integral part of the Dominican tourism industry. In only two years of air operations, and with the goal of supporting the growth of the country´s tourism industry, the company has increased its aerial and connectivity offers. The objective is to consolidate the Dominican Republic as the primary Caribbean hub, due to the country´s privileged geographical location.

Sky Cana, the innovative Dominican airline, is currently making history by introducing new paradigms and marketing procedures. More importantly, it has introduced a new way of traveling to and from the Dominican Republic. This new trend is supported by a group of renowned professionals from all areas of the aviation industry, and is the only company with 100% Dominican capital investment. The new airline operates with aircraft that can transport more than 100 passengers.

The company currently operates within the charter-flight market, operating three Airbus A321-200 aircraft and an A320. Each aircraft highlights some of the country´s top tourism regions, thus raising nationalistic sentiments. One aircraft proudly carries a “Go Puerto Plata” sign, the others repeat the strategy by brandishing signs that read “Go Samaná”, “Go Punta Cana,” and “Go Santo Domingo.”

The airline has available 840 seats, allowing it to meet some of the immediate needs of the Dominican tourism sector. For the upcoming winter season, they hope to operate routes to South America. The company is currently negotiating the purchase of another craft in order to establish this new route.

During the last year, the company operated 650 flights, transporting 125,000 passengers and 5,200 tons of cargo material. There are currently 175 direct employees working for the company, and created some 600 indirect jobs. All employees are Dominicans.

It also has commercial agreements with Avion Express, which is the largest ACME narrow-body operator in the world and the largest Lithuanian airline. Headquartered in Vilnius, Avion Express currently operates in Europe, the Caribbean, South America and the Asia-Pacific region.

From its very beginnings, the company has operated its international flights from the Las Americas International Airport, situated outside Santo Domingo; Santiago – the country´s second largest city; from La Romana and Punta Cana international airports, in the eastern region; and the Gregorio Luperón Airport in the north coast city of Puerto Plata.

Sky Cana was born from Logic Paq, a company dedicated to courier logistics. In 2014 it received its first air certification. It is currently completing the final procedures to convert the existing RAD135 license into a RAD121 license that will give Sky Cana the opportunity to become a purely Dominican airline, with the ability to have a multifaceted fleet of airplanes. It maintains operating agreements with Sky High Aviation, Sunrise and Air Century, companies that have operational responsibility.

Furthermore, the airline flies from Mexico to Cancun and Mazatlan; in Colombia to Medellin; in Cuba, to Havana, Santa Clara, Camagüey, Holguin and Santiago de Cuba; in Haiti, to Port-au-Prince; in Venezuela, to Maracaibo and Valencia. Also, to San Juan, Puerto Rico and to Surinam, Ecuador, Peru and Chile.

Sky Cana is an off-shoot of Logic Paq, originally a courier company. In 2014 it received its first air certification, and is currently giving the final steps to change its RAD135 license into an RAD121 license. This change will give Sky Cana the opportunity to become a purely Dominican airline, with the license to have a multifaceted fleet of airplanes.  It maintains operating agreements with Sky High Aviation, Sunrise and Air Century. These companies handle the operational side of the airline.

Diaz concluded: “Today we give ourselves the luxury of exhibiting very favorable results and, with our trust placed in God, we will continue to fly our flag up above at 35,000 feet, through the skies of Latin America and the world.”
